INTRODUCTION:

Since its establishment in 1949, manpower development is one of the core activity in which the NNDC has achieved tremendous success. Efforts have been made in training executives both locally and abroad .in the acquisition of skills in financial analyses, project management etc. This is with a view to strengthen human capacity of the northern region. Over the years manpower development in NNDC is achieved through secondment of staff to organizations like state investment companies, NNDC subsidiary companies, seminars, courses and workshops etc. Consequent upon a careful assessment of the challenges in the operating environment as well as the emerging opportunities in the corporate world, in 1999 NNDC mandated IFTC to carry out a feasibility analysis with a view to proffering solutions that would improve the company's performance to achieve maximum result. Part of recommendations of the IFTC is the establishment of a resource centre which would be expected to provide educational and consultancy services in various fields of human endeavor, such as consultancy on industrial projects like training on feasibility and diagnostic studies etc.

 

THE MUSA BELLO LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE:

In furtherance of its commitment to manpower development, NNDC management established a befitting learning and resource centre. Named after a one time Group Managing Director, Mallam Musa Bello, the centre known as MUSA BELLO LEARNING AND RESOURCE CENTRE (MBLRC) which is the upshot of the activities of the Young Professional Development Trust, was officially commission in 2007. It is equipped with state of the arts equipments for training, computers, competent instructors, fully air conditioned class rooms, alternative power generator in case of power outage all in a safe and secure environment conducive for learning. Apart from the sustenance of corporate governance for itself and its stakeholders, NNDC recognizes the growing indispensability of good corporate social responsibility practice. It is in this regards that the company went further to enhance on the operations of the MBLRC.

 

ACTIVITIES OF THE MUSA BELLO LEARNING AND RESOURCE CENTRE:

Since its commissioning in 2007, the MBLRC has been operating as a unit under the Management Service Directorate of the NNDC. The current organogram of the MBLRC comprised of the Board of Trustees, the coordinator and five mangers. The primary functions of the MBLRC include conducting a systematic training needs analysis (TNA) for all staff of NNDC Group from time to time. Preparing training plans with details of training courses, workshops, seminars and conferences to be patronized by the NNDC Group, DFI's, Ministries and Parastatals of the 19 Northern States and other clients in the country, using competent instructors drawn from within and outside the NNDC Group. It also the function of the MBLRC to assess on the job training development of staff is also Other pivotal role of the centre includes preparing a comprehensive evaluation of programmes and annual report on training activities and  establishing strategic alliance with reputable management development with foreign institutions. The MBLRC is also tasked with the establishment of beneficial relationship and cooperation with multilateral and bilateral agencies such as _ United Nations Development Programme (UNDPP) United Nations Industrial Development organization (UNIDO), Netherlands, Italy, German and British common wealth Scholarship Schemes, fellowship for the staff of NNDC Group and Northern DFls.

The MBLRC also provides short term attachments to specialized organization for inculcation of new knowledge, skill or acquisition of professional qualifications and membership in professional bodies in order to ensure the presence of Young Professionals of Northern States origin in government and the national economy in general. The Academic Departments under the centre are:
a)    Young ProfessionaI Development Trust
b)    Students' Special Programme (SSP)
c)    Curriculum Design, Development & Planning Department
